Select Grade: Walnut ranges from Vermont to the Great Plains and southward into Louisiana and Texas . The heartwood of Walnut varies from light to dark brown and the sapwood is nearly white. It is normally straight grained, easily worked with tools, and stable. It is heavy, hard, strong and stiff, and has good resistance to shock. It is well suited for natural finishes. Black walnut is used for furniture, woodwork, flooring, gunstocks, cabinets and more. It is graded differently than other hardwoods, and select grade has a certain amount of defects.
Country Grade: For an antique country look character grade, with a variety of knots and defects, can be enhanced even more by skip planning and distressing the wood on site. Undesirable defects can also be removed on the job site.
