Select Grade: Most Red Oak flooring comes from the Eastern States. The sapwood is nearly white. The heartwood is brown with a tinge of red. It is available in flat sawn and quarter sawn. Wood of the Red Oak is heavy. It is primarily used for flooring, furniture, general millwork, wooden ware, veneer, handles and in boats. Quarter sawn is distinguished by the broad and conspicuous rays. Quarter sawn and rift cut, in a select or country grade give the board a unique look. Please inquire about the difference between quarter sawn and flat sawn wood.
Country Grade: For an antique country look character grade, with a variety of knots and defects, can be enhanced even more by skip planning and distressing the wood on site. Undesirable defects can also be removed on the job site.
